FRIENDS OF SYDENSTRICKER SCHOOLHOUSE
Friends of Sydenstricker Schoolhouse (FSS), incorporated in 2014, is a non-profit 501(c)3 charitable organization dedicated to the preservation and protection of our historic community schoolhouse. The mission of FSS is to make the schoolhouse a place that will continue to serve the community as a meeting place, as a visible reminder of Fairfax County's past, and as a testament to the generations of people who have cared for the building since its construction. As a community landmark it is a reminder of life in a small rural community in the early 20th century, and is worthy of preservation for future generations. Funds raised will provide for future renovations and improvements to the schoolhouse and grounds, including complete exterior and interior restoration, an updated heating and cooling system, and other functional necessities that will make the building a more useable space for the community. All work will be performed under the guidance of experts in the field of historic preservation, and with the utmost sensitivity to the fragility and importance of the schoolhouse. Fundraising activities, and the generous donations and contributions from the community and the general public support this mission. We gratefully accept donations to help defray the costs of the preservation and maintenance of this historic property. |
